3 How Do You Use Oracle Administration Assistant for Windows?

Oracle Administration Assistant for Windows appears as a series of nodes in the Microsoft Management Console window. You select these nodes to access menu options, dialog boxes, and wizards for performing database management tasks. Before reading about the specific database management tasks that you can perform, you must first understand how to access and display these nodes in the Microsoft Management Console.

To display Oracle Administration Assistant for Windows nodes:

  1. Double-click Oracle Managed Objects.

  2. Right-click Computers.

  3. Choose New, then Computer.

  4. Specify the domain and hostname of the computer on which your Oracle database is installed, and click OK.

  5. Double-click Computers to display the computer you added.

  6. Double-click the computer you added (for example, MARK-PC). Several Oracle Administration Assistant for Windows nodes appear.

  7. Double-click Databases to display all database instances on this computer.

  8. Right-click the database instance to start (for example, ORCL1).

  9. Choose Connect Database. Several nodes typically appear beneath the instance, indicating that you are connected. If these nodes do not appear, double-click the instance.

All Oracle Administration Assistant for Windows nodes are now fully displayed.
